The Institute of Power Engineers was incorporated in 1940 with Corporate Affairs of Canada and the National office is located in Burlington, Ontario. The business of the Institute is managed by a National Board of Directors and has branch administrations that are located from the Canadian east to the west coast.
The Institute of Power Engineers, IPE, is a professional organization made up of Power Engineers and people working in related fields. The IPE is the unified voice of Power Engineers throughout Canada and the promotion of Safety is our business.
Membership shall be a person holding a Power Engineers Certificate of Competency as recognized by the Institute, and who has qualified according to the Membership Acceptance Standards as set by the institute, and has paid the initiation fee and dues.
The Vancouver IPE branch on December
12, 2002, was incorporated under the British Columbia Society Act, when
the name became "The British Columbia Institute of Power Engineers",
also known as the BCIPE. One of the many purposes listed
in the constitution is to certify and give the professional designation
PE to members who meet the membership requirements of the BCIPE.
Our Mission Statement is "The
BC Institute of Power Engineers is dedicated to the promotion of workplace
safety and training involving boiler and pressure vessel systems."
The Communications strategy is:
"The BC Institute of Power Engineers will foster open dialogue and
informed decision-making through meaningful and regular communication
of boiler and pressure vessel safety and training information with the
Regulator, industry, government, educators and the public."
When viewing the latest accomplishments you will also find a new brochure, newsletter, website, student association and the professionalism committee.
The BCIPE, Victoria, Vancouver and Abbotsford
branches have a positive forward-looking view and invite all Power Engineers
and associated fields to join the Institute and grow with us.

The Institute of Power Engineers believes that although industry must change to grow, worker safety should never be compromised. The IPE has worked to develop open communication with the BCSA to ensure Power Engineers are consulted on regulatory changes.
Though there is still much work to be done, the best way to ensure that power engineers are effectively heard in this province is to get involved in your local IPE.
Your support through membership will help to provide funding for local events, industrial seminars, and promoting our profession. The IPE executive and various committees are comprised of several power engineers throughout the lower mainland that have generously volunteered their time to maintain the structure of the IPE.
If you would like to get involved in the executive or any of our committees please contact Art Smith.
